Class Descriptions

Creative Dance Tots

Our dance class designed for the little tykes. Based on a classical ballet foundation, this parent/child class offers fun and innovative methods for playful exploration using ballet steps, yoga postures, expressive movement, structured games, props, story-telling and song.

Pre-Ballet

An introduction to classical ballet curriculum through basic steps and primary skill-building. Barre work and movement across the floor is introduced. There is focus on building strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and joy of movement.

Ballet

Classical dance form that develops grace, poise, strength and flexibility through a structured and disciplined curriculum. Children learn the French terminology and the English translation. Level placement is decided by the instructor and dependant on appropriate age group, physical development, skill level and previous experience.

Pointe/Pre-Pointe

Classical ballet training in pointe shoes for the pointe or pre-pointe dancer that develops strength, skill, and agility for pointe shoe dancing. Two or more ballet technique classes are required for enrollment in this class.

Lyrical / Contemporary

A modern, interpretive style of dance that utilizes unrestricted and free-flowing movement based on a classical ballet foundation.

Hip-Hop/Jazz

A dance class that includes warm-up and flexibility exercises, while developing strength, balance and coordination. Funky and current dance moves, both center of room and across the floor, progress to choreographed routines.

Tap

This class develops rhythmic foot patterns and combinations in the center and across the floor. Combinations and choreographed routines will be taught using varied dance styles and music selections.

Gymnastics

A popular and fun activity program that teaches the fundamentals of tumbling, balance beam, swing bar and more. Classes are specifically structured with great attention to form, alignment, strength and safety, while encouraging each and every student to strive for personal goals. Physical development and skill ability will determine level placement.

 

Dance Attire

Lamoille Valley Dance Academy requires proper dance attire for all classes, with no exceptions. Proper attire designates the various dance levels and styles, while enabling the instructors to view and correct the student's posture and form. Absolutely no street clothes, loose shirts or pants, or loose hair. Ballet slippers must have student's name inside, strings tied and taped inside the shoe.  Hair must be in a ballet bun or pulled back off of the face as designated below. Any student not properly dressed will not be allowed in class.

Girls:
Pink leotard, pink tights and and pink ballet slippers, hair in ballet bun.

Boys:
White t-shirt, black sweatpants, black ballet slippers or bare feet.

Pre-Ballet

Girls:
Pink leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, hair in ballet bun.

Boys:
White t-shirt, black tights or sweatpants, black ballet shoes.

Ballet & Pointe/Pre-Pointe

Girls:
Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, hair in ballet bun.
* Dance skirts may be worn in the center only, after ballet barre. 

Boys:
White t-shirt, black tights, black ballet shoes.

Lyrical / Contemporary

Girls:
Any solid color leotard or dance camisole, black tights or jazz pants, jazz shoes or bare feet, hair in ponytail.

Boys:
Any color t-shirt, black tights or jazz pants, jazz shoes or bare feet.

Hip-Hop / Jazz / Tap

Girls:
Any solid color leotard or dance camisole, black jazz pants or tights, black jazz shoes, clean sneakers or tap shoes, hair in a ponytail.

Boys:
Any solid color t-shirt, black jazz or sweatpants, black jazz shoes, clean sneakers or tap shoes.

Gymnastics

Girls:
Any color leotard or dance camisole, bike shorts or unitard, bare feet, hair in a ponytail.

Boys:
Any color t-shirt, shorts or bike shorts, bare feet.
